Recording a Script
Bring headphones with you. If you do not have headphones (and don't care to hear yourself through the mixing board) make sure the external volume is turned down (monitor knob turned all the way down) or you will get feedback. |
1. You may use Surfer or Recorder to record your script.
2. Double left click on the speaker icon in the lower right hand corner of the
screen to engage the dalet level meters

If you are using surfer, make sure the speaker icons on the left of the surfer have PLAY disengaged and REC turned on
3. Press the record button in Surfer or Recorder .
4. Turn the MIC 1 channel on and raise the slider to activate the microphone
as your input device.
5. Read a little! Watch the dalet level meters as you read
It should just
begin to touch the red part at your loudest vocal tone.
If you find that you are yelling into the mic to get it to register on the level indicator, you must turn up the MIC 1 slider on the mixing board.
If you find that the level meter is peaking to high in the red area of the dalet level meter, you should turn down the MIC 1 slider on the mixing board.
6. When you reach a satisfactory level, press the PLAY button on Dalet and begin reading.
A titling screen will appear. Ignore that until you are done reading.
7. When you are finished reading, enter the title for the recording.
8. Select the folder you wish to save in and click the SET button.
9. Click OK to save the reading.

SURFER Close
Dalet and say NO to any further messages.
IF YOU ARE USING RECORDER DONT FORGET Completing and Saving The Recording:
After you click the stop button to end the recording, you must then save the current recording channel:
1. Make sure the Recorder application is active (title bar of the Recorder application is blue or 'active' color).
2. From the drop down menu bar, click on Current Channel and then Save.
3. In the Base Browser, if you click the refresh button (water bucket), you will see the updated duration of the recording.
Return to your desk, open the file in surfer and edit (unless you are perfect). Don't forget to RESAVE the file using SAVE AS AUDIO TITLE in the folder of your choosing. You may then delete the original recording that may contain your errors during reading.
