Recording Taped Sources Into Dalet

Playing taped sources is a seasoned tradition here at VOA for years. This is as simple as:

1. Insert the cassette, cartridge (cart), or thread the reel tape into the device.

2. Queue the tape to the appropriate location for playback (in the case of cartridge tapes, you must re-queue the cart to the starting position).

3. Play the tape to determine appropriate levels (see Dalet Recording Instructions to learn how to set recording levels for Dalet).

4. After levels have been set, rewind (or re-queue) the tape to the starting point and start recording in Dalet and press play on the tape.

DONT FORGET

IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE YOUR TAPES RECORDED INTO DALET AS SOON AS POSSIBLE:

1. Tapes deteriorate. To retain the best sound quality, record taped audio into Dalet.

2. Audio tape formats are disappearing. Cartridge tape machines are scheduled to be removed from the agency. Record the cartridges that are used regularly, into Dalet to preserve their quality long after the cartridge machines are removed.
