Recording in Dalet Using The Surfer Application
With the source/playback device prepared (tape, MD, CD, reel, etc), do the following steps:
1. To open the Surfer application, left click on Global
in the menu bar at the top of the screen, and select Run Application...
2. Chose the Surfer application by clicking Surfer.app and clicking OK.
3. The Surfer application will appear.
4. To check recording levels click the Record button .
5. Make sure the Track Designation/Activation Controls (on the
left of the Surfer application) are set in the Record/Mute configuration
(The record button is activated and the play button is deactivated. This means
that you will be recording on this channel only and will keep feedback from
occurring).
6. With the Record button flashing and the Track Designation/Activation Controls in the Record/Mute configuration, you may now press play on your playback source (MD, CD, Tape, etc).
7. Open the volume controls on the brown speaker in the system
tray which is in the lower right corner of your windows task bar.
8. Observe the volume control meters with the audio playback
from your source device. Make sure the meters are reaching the maximum level
by just reaching the red area of the meter during the loudest points.
9. Once the desired levels are set, rewind/prepare your playback
source to the beginning, and you are ready to record (record button on the
surfer application is still flashing), click the Play button
to begin recording.
10. As in the rest of the applications in Dalet, when you begin recording a titling window will appear. In the "title" field enter the title of the recording.
11. Select the appropriate storage category in the category window.
12. Click the Set button to set the category for the recording.
13. Click the OK button to store the recording in the set category.
14. When you are finished recording, click the Stop button in the Surfer application. The audio has been saved.
DONT FORGET!! Completing The Recording
When you close the surfer application you will receive a message like this:
This is the Dalet application's way of asking if you have made any changes and would like to save the audio in a "project" or an EDL file. If you click No the file is saved as an Audio Title. You may come back to the file and make changes to it later and save those changes at that time.
If you have:
- made changes to the file since you recorded and stopped the recording.
clicking Yes here is recommended. This way you will have the option of saving the audio with your changes and with another file name.
